Boccaccio Trio

The Boccaccio Trio was founded in 2007 and takes its name from Giovanni Boccaccio (1313-1375), the Italian author, poet, Renaissance humanist friend of Petrarch. The trio consists of Jeremy Mastrangelo, violin; David LeDoux, cello; and Fred Karpoff, piano.

Jeremy Mastrangelo was appointed Associate Concertmaster of the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra in 2001. Since then, he has been a featured soloist with the Orchestra on multiple occasions, most recently in the 2004-2005 season in a performance of Bach's Concerto for two violins with Jaime Laredo. Mr. Mastrangelo has been a finalist in the Julius Stulberg competition, and also won first prize in the National Federation of Music Clubs competition and the Michigan ASTA competition. He has served as co-concertmaster of the New World Symphony Orchestra in Miami, as a substitute violinist with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, and also as concertmaster and soloist with the Bach and Beyond festival in Fredonia, New York. Mastrangelo has performed numerous solo recitals in the Syracuse area and is an adjunct faculty member of Syracuse University.

Since 2000, Mr. Mastrangelo has spent his summers in Colorado with his wife, Sara. First, he performed as a quartet musician at Steamboat Springs' Strings in the Mountains festival, and for the next four years as principal second violin of the Breckenridge Music Festival Orchestra under conductor Gerhardt Zimmerman. From 2005-2006 he served as concertmaster for the BMF. In that capacity, Mastrangelo soloed with the orchestra and is featured on a CD of Piazzolla's "Four Seasons", which is available through contacting the BMF at breckenridgemusicfestival.com. Mr. Mastrangelo holds degrees from the Cleveland Institute of Music and the University of Michigan where he studied with William Preucil and Paul Kantor, respectively.

An avid chamber musician, Mastrangelo has worked with members of the Audubon, Cleveland, Guarneri, and Juilliard string quartets. He has performed in various chamber ensembles as a part of the Syracuse Friends of Chamber Music series and for concerts at Hamilton College, LeMoyne College, SUNY Oswego, and Syracuse University.

David LeDoux is Principal Cellist of the Syracuse Symphony. He was formerly the principal cellist of the Baton Rouge Symphony, the Louisiana Sinfonietta, and the Gulf Coast Symphony Orchestra in Mississippi. He has also served as a cellist in the Tulsa Philharmonic Orchestra in Oklahoma and the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra in Louisiana. Mr. LeDoux studied cello at the University of Southern California with Ronald Leonard and at the Louisiana State University with Dennis Parker. He has attended the International Festival-Institute at Round Top, Texas, and Charlie Castleman's Quartet Program in Pennsylvania. He has studied chamber music with Milton Thomas, Donald McInnes, Michelle Kim and Martin Lovett. As a soloist, LeDoux has performed with the Louisiana Sinfonietta, the Mid-Texas Symphony, the Tulsa Philharmonic, and the Oklahoma State University Orchestra.
